Professor Chris Hearn
My Story...
Chris started jiu jitsu with Mill Hill BJJ Head Instructor the late Nick Brooks at the age of 15 when the club was a purely Japanese Jiu Jitsu club. Chris enjoyed the classes immensely in all aspects but one aspect in particular was that of ground fighting. Chris and Nick would train together submission wrestling starting a Saturday club which would be the basis for what would become Mill Hill BJJ.
After a few years Chris and Nick started training ground fighting in a Gi with Joao Santos after meeting him on a seminar and never looked back. They continued their training at the Roger Gracie Academy when it first opened in 2004. Continuing to train there on and off for the next 10 years or so.
During this time Chris competed fairly regularly in and around the UK as well as internationally in the European Championship (Portugal) and the Mundials – World Championships (California). He also was honoured to be able to train with Ricardo De La Riva at his academy in Copacabana and competing along side Nick in the Copa De Mundo – World Cup (Sao Paulo) and the Rio State Championships (Rio De Janeiro).
For the past 12 years Chris has put competing to one side and has been concentrating on coaching and teaching kids classes. Running a successful kids programme prior to covid 19 where the classes had to close. During this time he moved to Weymouth where he now resides teaching along side friends from Sasquatch Studios in Verwood, where he continues to teach and train. He also is back competing winning Gold in the Bournemouth open in 2022 and will continue to compete in international tournaments in the future.
